Accepting These Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Kani, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you're using Kani on behalf of an organization, you're agreeing to these terms on their behalf.

What Kani Provides

Kani is a privacy-focused AI assistant application that:

• Provides an interface to interact with various AI language models
• Stores your conversations and context locally on your device
• Offers optional encrypted sync between your devices
• Routes your AI requests through our service to manage subscriptions

Your Account

Creating an Account

You need an account to use Kani's full features. When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure.

Account Security

You're responsible for all activity under your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact us immediately at support@kani.ai.

Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use Kani. If you're under 18, you need parental consent. Our upcoming Family plan will include supervised accounts for younger users.

Subscriptions & Payment

Acceptable Use

When using Kani, you agree not to:

• ✕Use Kani to generate illegal, harmful, or abusive content
• ✕Attempt to circumvent usage limits or security measures
• ✕Resell, redistribute, or sublicense access to Kani
• ✕Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from Kani
• ✕Use automated tools to abuse the service

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines.

Your Content

You own your content. The conversations, context notes, and files you create with Kani belong to you. We don't claim any rights to your content.

By using Kani, you grant us the limited right to transmit your prompts to AI providers to deliver the service. This is purely functional — we don't store, analyze, or use your content for any other purpose.

AI-Generated Content

When you use Kani to interact with AI models, please understand:

• AI isn't perfect: Responses may contain errors, outdated information, or biases
• Not professional advice: AI output shouldn't replace medical, legal, financial, or other professional guidance
• Your responsibility: You're responsible for how you use AI-generated content

Intellectual Property

Kani, including its design, code, and brand, is owned by HumanShip AI Lab. Your subscription grants you a personal, non-transferable license to use the application — not ownership of the software itself.

"Kani," the crab logo, and related marks are our trademarks. Please don't use them without permission.

Service Availability

We work hard to keep Kani running smoothly, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service. Outages may occur due to:

• Scheduled maintenance (we'll try to notify you in advance)
• AI provider outages beyond our control
• Technical issues or security incidents

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

Kani is provided "as is." We don't make warranties about the accuracy, reliability, or fitness of the service for any particular purpose.

We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Kani. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months.

Termination

By you: You can stop using Kani and cancel your subscription anytime. Your locally stored data remains on your device.

By us: We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms or engage in conduct that harms other users or our service. We'll provide notice when possible.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as Kani evolves. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and Spain. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Barcelona, Spain, unless local law requires otherwise.
